After returning home from a trip and trying to adjust back to Calgary time, in conjunction with teething and a cold, our once “good” sleeper was a thing of the past. He seemed to get smarter over night and no longer would go to sleep without me rocking, jiggling, and patting him to sleep. And after a half hour of this, I would go to gingerly lay him into bed and his eyes would pop open and we would be back to square one. He started waking almost every hour through the night and that’s when I knew we HAD to do something to improve our situation.At around the 4 month old mark, we had dabbled in a little of our own self-directed sleep training based on techniques we had read on the internet. It did not go well! My baby just didn’t fit the cookie-cutter criteria of what they predicted he would do, and when that happened, I would second guess what I was doing and convinced myself I was making things worse. So, at the 5 1/2 month mark, I called Shan for help. She came up with a tailored plan specifically for our son, coached and encouraged us to commit to it and supported us throughout the process. I had anticipated hours of screaming, but the first night he only cried for 8 minutes before falling asleep…could this be?! Not all of it was that easy, and when the tough times hit, or if he didn’t get the memo about what he was supposed to be doing, Shan was very quick to respond with suggestions and support. Shan and the SleepSense program gave me peace of mind that I was doing things the right way. Our son now regularly sleeps through the night and takes great naps without having to struggle. I feel human again…it’s amazing what a full night’s sleep can do for you!
